UN chief approves Iraqi food plan

UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan yesterday approved the food redistribution plan submitted by Iraq on November 28 within the oil-for-food agreement. $1.056 billion is to be used to buy food within the humanitarian program for Iraq, out of a total $2.746 billion. Funds of $240 million go toward purchasing medicines and medical equipment, $150 million will go toward water and sanitation, $409 million for electricity, and $300 million for oil spare parts.
