Egyptian premier reiterates call for an Arab common market
Jordan-Egypt, Economics, 12/11/1998
The Egyptian Prime Minister Kamal al-Ganzouri has reiterate his call to establish a common Arab market so long awaited for, similar to the European experience as a step towards establishing the bilateral trade free zone.
Upon arriving at Amman in an official visit during which he will preside over the meetings of the joint Egyptian-Jordanian higher committee together with his Jordanian counterpart Fayez Tarawneh, the Egyptian Premier said that Jordan and Egypt "seek to establish a free-trade" similar to the bilateral agreements between Egypt and each of Morocco, Tunisia and Lebanon as a step towards the establishment of the common Arab market.
The Egyptian Premier indicated that the Arab states, contrary to Europe, tried to "jump directly to the establishment of the market without preparation," embodied in setting up "joint projects and then trade free areas, a custom federation and then economic integration under the name of the common Arab market."
