US delegation in solidarity with the Iraqi people
Iraq-USA, Economics, 12/9/1998

A US people's delegation led by former U.S. Attorney General Ramsey Clark left Amman on Tuesday heading for Baghdad in solidarity with the people of Iraq against the sanctions imposed on them.

In a pre-departure press conference Clark said the delegation, which comprises 14 members carrying medicinal materials as part of other aid estimated at US $1.5 million.

For his part, the director of the US Islamic Council in the conference stressed that the delegation's visit has great significance in the need to implement a human rights charter for the children, women and citizens of Iraq, who suffer slow death as a result of the siege.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Jordanian al-Ayan council (upper house) Zeid al-Refa'ai on Tuesday in Amman received chairman of the Iraqi National Council Dr. Saadoun Hammadi. Discussions centered on measures that should be taken to lift the sanctions imposed on Iraq and to end the sufferings of the people of Iraq.
