Production quality seminar opened in Damascus

Syrian Economy Minister Muhammad al-Imadi said that the ratio of international trade to the Syrian Gross National Product has increased from 20.7 percent in 1986 to 29.7 percent in 1996.
In an inaugural speech at the fourth national seminar on quality on Sunday, al-Imadi spoke on the principle of "economic pluralism in import - export operations in Syria."
For his part, the chairman of the Damascus Chamber of Industry, Yehya al-Hindi, spoke about the important role played by his Chamber in spreading "ISO 9000" standards in Syria four years ago, "through training a large number of factories's owners and staff for this purpose." He called for the circulation of the ISO idea in all small, medium and large factories in the public, private and joint sectors.
The seminar will last until December 20 on seven intermittent days in the provinces of Damascus, Aleppo and Homs.
