Morocco submits officially candidacy for hosting world cup-2006
Morocco, Sports, 12/4/1998

Morocco has officially submitted candidacy for hosting the 2006 soccer world cup finals.

It is the 3rd time that Morocco is running for organizing this prestigious football event after failing in 1994 and 1998 to stand up against powerful rival candidates such as USA and France.

Besides Morocco, Britain, Egypt, Brazil, Ghana and Germany are also bidding for the event. South Africa is also expected to announce its candidacy shortly. Other Prospective candidates have until 31 December 1998 to apply.

After visits to the candidate countries to assess their capacities and potentials for holding the world cup finals, the FIFA executive committee will designate the successful host country in March 2000.

The FIFA Executive committee, which is currently meeting in Zurich, is looking into a number of issues related to the 2002 World Cup to be co-hosted by Japan and Korea.
