Sahrawi association calls for suing Polisario leaders for war crimes
Morocco, Politics, 12/3/1998
The association of Sahrawi parents of victims of terrorism in the camps of Tindouf on Tuesday called on all international organizations, especially the U.N., to sue the Polisario leaders as war criminals.
The Polisario has become a symbol of terrorism, killings, torture and blackmail, denying the dignity of the Sahrawis who it is sequestering in Tindouf, south-western Algeria, where the Polisario front has its headquarters, the association said in a communique sent to MAP.
The Polisario leaders seek to "maintain the sufferings of the sequestered Sahrawis to obtain humanitarian assistance extended by foreign NGOs, the association said on the occasion of its third anniversary.
The association said it managed during a short time to unveil to the international public opinion the reality of the terrorism practiced by the Polisario.
"The lists of persons killed and executed by the Polisario and of the missing ones were handed to several international human rights organizations," the association said, adding that it "convinced these association of the need to shed light on the fate of the missing persons.
A detailed file on the inhuman acts perpetrated by the Polisario against the Sahrawis was handed to U.N. secretary-general, Kofi Annan, the association said.
Annan is currently on a North African tour to put on track a much-delayed vote, proposed in the 1980's by Morocco to determine whether the former Spanish colony sets up on its own as claimed by the Polisario, or be incorporated into Morocco.
