Foodstuffs for Iraq through Syrian port
Iraq-Syria, Economics, 12/3/1998
Iraq on Wednesday received the first shipment of foodstuffs via the Syrian port of Tartous on the Mediterranean coast. Iraqi dailies published on Wednesday quoted the director of the Iraqi general company of land transport, Muhammad Saber al-Musawi, as saying that around 10,000 tonnes of foodstuffs were transported to Iraq across the center of the Syrian - Iraqi borders.
The UN in August this year permitted the use of the port of Tartous as a point of entry for the commodities imported by Iraq in accordance with the oil-for-food program.
