Trailing Osama bin Laden in Egypt
Egypt, Judicial, 12/2/1998
Egyptian sources revealed today that the state security prosecution is currently investigating an issue concerning the activity of Islamic movement leaders residing abroad.
At the top of the suspect list comes Osama bin Laden and elements affiliated to the organization headed by bin Laden's assistant, Atef Mohammed Mustafa, known as Abu Hafse El-Masri.
The sources said that the number of the case is 502 (high state security) as in 1995 the security bodies delivered to the prosecution a note containing accusations against the organizations' leaders abroad, concerning their role in supporting violence that has taken place in Egypt since 1992, but not arresting any of those leaders to prevent the continuation of the investigation into the case.
The sources stated that the authorities have recently obtained important information about the suspects' activities, where this was after the security bodies were able to place an agent to infiltrate into the circles of the accused abroad, then the agent returned to the country where he is the only witness in this case.
