Baghdad accuses Kuwait of not giving information about 1,000 missing Iraqis

Baghdad on Monday accused Kuwait of not giving information about the fate of 1,000 Iraqis who have been missing in Kuwait since the Gulf War in 1991.

The Iraqi weekly Nabd al-Shabab quoted an official source at the Iraqi Foreign Ministry as saying that the Kuwaiti authorities have not disclosed until now the fate of the missing Iraqis.

The paper added that the number of missing Iraqis was 1,150 including civilians and troops, missing inside Kuwait City, or in the Iraqi - Kuwaiti operation fields, and many of them have been missing in the Iraqi territories, occupied by the allied troops "during the aggression."

Last July Iraq asked the Arab League to intervene to learn the fate of the 137 Iraqis Baghdad announced officially as missed in Kuwait following the withdrawal of the Iraqi troops from Kuwait in February 1991.

Baghdad admitted that its troops brought together with them following their withdrawal from Kuwait to Iraq several prisoners, but it asserted that it had lost their traces following the uprising which took place in Southern Iraq, which followed the Gulf War.
