Iraq-Romania, Politics, 12/1/1998
The Romanian authorities on Monday denied news that an Iraqi delegation visited Bucharest last May to buy systems to direct missiles.
SANA reported that the spokeswoman for the Romanian Foreign Ministry, Carmen Burgorino, was quoted as saying that the Foreign Ministry has no information about "such a visit, which was announced by the US CNN on Sunday."
For his part, an official at the Romanian Defense Ministry, Alexander Snowticho, said, "We have always supported the efforts of the UN group which aims at finding a solution for the crisis in the Gulf."
He added, "We precisely honor the UN resolutions concerning Iraq," stressing that his country's position toward Iraq is "clear."
