Lebanon-Israel, Military, 11/27/1998
Lebanese resistance forces on Thursday night attacked an armored Israeli vehicle which was carrying out fortification operations in the surroundings of al-Qaba position on the Lebanese borders with occupied Palestine. In a statement, the Lebanese resistance said its forces achieved direct hits during the attack.
The statement added that another resistance group attacked the same position and destroyed its fortifications. The statement continued that another resistance group launched a similar attack against a position held by the pro-Israeli South Lebanon Army militia in the central sector.
On Wednesday the Lebanese national resistance struck a strong blow against the Israeli occupation forces in the depths of the occupied territories, when one of the resistance groups planted an ambush for an Israeli on-foot patrol on the road of al-Qaba' position in Markaba district.
An explosive charge was detonated, and the explosion coincided with heavy machine-gun fire and missile attacks against the patrol, wounding or killing all members of the patrol.
An Israeli military spokesman on Thursday acknowledged the death of one Israeli army officer and one soldier as a result of the explosion resulting from the ambush planted by Lebanese resistance forces in the occupied part of south Lebanon.
Meanwhile, the Israeli occupation forces on Thursday shelled with heavy artillery the surroundings of al-Ghandourieh, Burj Qelyeh and Toulin towns. Security reports from South Lebanon said the enemy bombardment covered Wadi al-Qesyeh and the surrounding of Kurbet Soloum, al-Sawanneh and al-Jmijmeh.
Israeli warplanes carried out mock provocative raids over areas extending from al-Naquora to the borders of al-Nabatieh town and the central and western sectors of south Lebanon.
