New collective funeral for Iraqi children
Iraq, Politics, 11/25/1998
Baghdad on Tuesday held a collective funeral for 31 children who died as a result of a food and medicine shortage due to the continued UN sanctions imposed on Iraq for 8 years.
Some 2000 Iraqis who gathered in front of UNSCOM headquarters denounced the sanctions and chanted anti-US slogans against all those who perpetuate the sanctions imposed on their country.
The demonstrators called upon the UN to immediately lift the sanctions imposed Iraq so as to alleviate sufferings of the Iraqi people. They held the US and Britain responsible for the deaths of their children through their persistence to perpetuate the sanctions.
Sanctions imposed on Iraq since 1990 have caused the death of two million Iraqis, including 1.25 million Iraqi children.
