Korean and Sudanese ministers in Muscat for trade talks

South Korean Minister of Trade and Industry Pak Tae-yong, who arrived in Muscat on Monday coming from Saudi Arabia, has expressed his country's desire to strengthen partnership with Oman in the areas of energy and trade.

The Omani news agency said the Korean minister expressed during his meeting with his Omani counterpart, Maqboul Bin Ali Bin Sultan, his country's desire as a country which imports Omani oil to obtain a license to fish in Omani territorial waters as well as to obtain contracts favoring South Korean companies in the field of construction.

The Korean company for producing liquid natural gas owns 5% of the capital of its Omani counterpart, of which the government of Oman owns 51%. The company will resume activities by the end of the coming year and exportation processes in April, 2000.

Earlier on Monday the Korean minister arrived in Muscat for a two-day visit to Oman. During his visit, the Korean official will hold talks with high-ranking Omani officials on means of boosting trade and industrial relations as well as other matters relating to energy and transport between the two countries.

Meanwhile, Sudanese Foreign Minister Mustafa Othman Ismael arrived in Muscat on Monday for a several-day visit to Oman. During his visit, the Sudanese minister will hold talks with several Omani officials on bilateral relations between the two countries.

He will also preside over the Sudanese delegation to the meetings of the Sudanese - Omani joint committee.
