Morocco sets up environment action plan
Morocco, Environment, 11/23/1998

A national environment action plan, aimed at ensuring the integration of ecological concerns in the economic and social development, was presented over the weekend in Rabat.

The plan seeks to achieve a sustained development and mobilize all actors concerned by environment protection and employment promotion.

Separate workshops, held recently, made a series of recommendations that will be submitted to the National Environment Council and the government council.

The workshops stressed the need to take into account the environment dimension in the five-year development plans.

In a recent meeting with the press, Moroccan territorial development, urbanism and housing minister, Mohamed El-Yazghi, termed as "disastrous" the environment situation in Morocco. He attributed the environment deterioration to the deforestation, desertification and pollution.
