Iranian, Saudi Shoura councils chiefs for boosting bilateral relations

Chairman of the Iranian Shoura council, Ali Akbar Nateq Nouri discussed on Sunday night in Tehran with his Saudi counterpart, Sheikh Muhammad Bin Jubeir, the importance of exchanging visits between the two countries' officials, especially between members of the Shoura councils, as well as means of strengthening bilateral relations.

During the meeting, Nateq Nouri stressed that, "Saudi-Iranian relations are witnessing notable progress following the visit of the Saudi crown prince in 1997 to Tehran."

He added that both Saudi Arabia and Tehran play a key role in the region. He said "fostering bilateral relations falls in the course of serving the two countries' interests and of good results in the region."

He continued that since the very beginning Iran had borne the responsibility of supporting rights of Muslims, defending their causes and maintaining their unity.

For his part, the chairman of the Iranian Shoura council called for setting up a federation for the Islamic parliaments in order to strengthen reaction among Muslims all over the world.

Bin Jubeir noted the deep relations between the two countries. He stressed the need to develop them on various levels for the interests of the two peoples and Muslims of the world. He praised the policies pursued by the two countries ' leaders in expanding bilateral relations. He, moreover, welcomed the proposal made by Nouri to set up a federation of Islamic parliaments.

Moreover, Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharazi met with Sheikh Muhammad Bin Jubeir.

Talks dealt with bilateral relations and means of strengthening and enhancing them in various fields as well as developments in the region and issues of mutual concern.
