New British plans in support of Iraqi opposition
Iraq-UK, Politics, 11/19/1998

Britain said on Wednesday that it is preparing new plans to strengthen the capabilities of the Iraqi opposition in order to topple the government of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.

Spokesman for the British Prime Minister Tony Blair said that Britain is studying the possibility of embarking on new ways to help Iraqi opposition groups raise their voice against Iraq's government.

The spokesman added that London will announce in the near future an initiative in this respect. He added that the British government started contacts with Iraqi opposition members living in London to set up a new coalition financially supported by Britain and equipped with television and radio broadcasting programs against the ruling government in Iraq.

This new move came after Blair had voiced support for US efforts to increase efforts to assist the Iraqi opposition that is seeking to remove Saddam Hussein's government.
