Ocalan thanks Italian government for refusing to deliver him to Turkey
Turkey-Italy, Politics, 11/18/1998
Abdullah Ocalan, the head of the Kurdish Workers Party, issued a statement today in which he thanked the Italian government for refusing a Turkish request to deliver him in order to be presented before the Turkish judiciary.
Turkish President Suleiman Demirel said that government considers Ocalan's case a test of international solidarity against terrorism. Ocalan is currently being detained in Italy, which follows a policy of not delivering the wanted to countries that apply the death sentence, like Turkey.
