Iraq, Politics, 11/18/1998
The Iraqi official news agency said on Tuesday that Khaled Jamal Abdul Nasser is visiting Iraq to maintain solidarity with its people.
The agency added that on Tuesday Nasser met with the Iraqi Health Minister Omid Medhat and reviewed with him health conditions in Iraq and the consequences of the embargo imposed on Iraq for eight years.
The agency did not indicate the date when Abdul Nasser arrived in Baghdad. It quoted him as saying that his visit came to "express his solidarity with the people of Iraq"
He added, "The US threats against the brotherly people of Iraq are but an expression of the US atrocity and aim at imposing hegemony on the potentials of the Arab nation." He went on that the "Egyptian people refuse the US anti-Arab nation logic."
Abdul Nasser went on to say, "The siege imposed on Iraq for more than eight years is a repressive one aiming at exterminating the Iraqi people because they refuse to surrender and are persistent to resist the American hegemony."
