Lebanon mediates between Egypt and Iran
Lebanon-Regional, Politics, 11/18/1998

Diplomatic sources in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, told the Kuwaiti daily al-Anba on Tuesday that the short visit made by Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri to Tehran on Monday falls in the course of Arab mediation to restore relations between Egypt and Iran.

The sources did not rule out shuttle tours by Hariri in this capacity covering Cairo and Damascus. The sources expected Hariri not to announce any official position about this mediation unless the set objectives are achieved.

The sources added that Hariri will "spend this week in following up this very important Arab mission."

The paper explained that its" special information" states that the first contact Hariri made to bring together both Cairo and Tehran was in New York during the opening of the recent UN session when he received the two countries' premiers in his hotel.
