Islamic countries set up council in charge of promoting Islamic culture

Culture ministers of Islamic countries decided Friday in Rabat to set up a consultative council in charge of implementing a unified Islamic culture in the whole Muslim world.
At the end of their 2nd conference held in Morocco, the Islamic culture ministers also decided to entrust the Rabat-based Islamic, Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization "ISESCO" with the mission of following up the creation of this council to gather delegates from Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Iran, Malaysia, Indonesia, Senegal, Mali and Burkina Faso.
The ministers called for the coordination of cultural and educational strategies to preserve the Islamic identity, civilizational legacy and enable Islamic countries counter upcoming socio-economic and cultural challenges.
They also called for generalizing the teaching of Islamic civilization and culture in all Islamic countries schools to endow the upcoming generations with all necessary means to be immunized from deviations and contribute to the development of Islamic culture and building of a sound and coherent Islamic society.
During the Conference, the ISESCO voiced readiness to finance any cultural project aiming to promote Islamic culture worldwide.
The creation of the council came indeed as a response to the call made by King Hassan II to the Islamic culture ministers, urging them to adopt a comprehensive cultural strategy to preserve the Islamic identity.
In a message addressed to the conference which convened in Rabat November 12-14, King Hassan II underlined the importance of culture in sustaining the socio-economic development process and called for implementing of a unified Islamic cultural strategy.
This strategy, the king said, should target the mounting generations to shield them against the adverse impacts of disinformation and extremism and spare them the negative behaviors prevailing in developed societies.
The 1st conference of culture ministers of Islamic countries was held in Dakar (Senegal) in January 1989.
