Syria celebrates 28th anniversary of Correctionist Movement
Syria, Politics, 11/16/1998
Syria today celebrates the 28th anniversary of the Correctionist Movement, which marks President al-Assad's accession to presidency.
On this occasion, Syrian Information Minister Muhammad Salman told the Syrian local press said that since its foundation, "The political lexicon of the Baath Arab Socialist Party has derived from clear-cut principles to the effect that the message of the Arab nation throughout the Arab homeland is covered and guided by materializing the objectives of unity, liberty and socialism."
He added that such a political lexicon, in its current framework, has not always been the same, as it developed due to the March 8 revolution of 1963, the 23rd February Movement and the 1970 Correctionist Movement.
Salman added that the CM's political lexicon was addressed to the people. It promised them a building of their political, legislative and economic institutions and reactivation of their social, vocational and trade union organizations, with a view to setting up solid national unity capable of maintaining real democracy, where every citizen realized true opportunities in developing the nation and liberating the occupied lands.
The minister went on that the lexicon's political, socioeconomic and cultural depth practicably deepened within the Progressive National Front and through government legislative, economic and occupational structures which altogether established the pillars of what President al-Assad named "national unity."
The minister added that this solid unity has become a full-fledged political and social system enhanced by political and economic pluralism. He proceeded: "Hundreds of public, private and joint companies were established in terms of law "No 10" on encouraging investment and other facilities to encourage the Syrians, Arab, expatriates and foreigners for ensuring investments."
The minister added, "The Income Tax Law also encouraged the citizens to turn their savings to investment."
Minister Salman said the effectiveness of the CM's political lexicon was embodied in the Arab solidarity attained during the "October War," making Arabs realize successive fragmentation and in averting the dangers of wars which serve "only the Zionist enemy, such as the First Gulf War" that was to deceive some Arabs as an Arab-Persian war, and the Second Gulf War that was disastrous for the Arabs.
He went on that the lexicon's "peace as a strategic option" principle depends on basic components, namely liberating the lands, restoring rights and not "selling out" despite the shortcomings in the balance of forces in the arena of conflict and the greater shortcomings resulting from international changes and their adverse repercussions on the entire Arab nation.
