Gaddafi gives up hope on Arab unity
Libya, Politics, 11/12/1998
The Libyan President Moammar Gaddafi assured unity with the African countries and that "he is not going to deceive himself or live in vain hoping to achieve the Arab unity."
During his meeting yesterday with members of the coordination committee of the Arab revolutionary discussion, Gaddafi said "the Africans challenged American in Wagadougo summit when they refused to submit to the sanctions imposed on Libya and broke the air embargo," a reference to the sanctions imposed as a result of the Lockerbie incident. Last year, the Organization of African Unity last year voted to break the embargo, and its members flew into Libya in defiance of the sanctions, an act that the Arab states did not do.
He added "the Arabs are unable to defend their existence and life, pointing out to the death of thousand of people in Iraq due to the sanctions."
