Palestine urged to lift house arrest on Sheikh Yassin
Palestine, Politics, 11/12/1998

Prominent figure of the Palestinian National Resistance Movement Hamas, Ismael Abu Shanab said on Wednesday that Hamas officials demanded the Palestinian government to promptly end the house arrest imposed on the founder of the movement Sheikh Ahmad Yassin.

In statements quoted by the BBC's correspondent in Gaza on Wednesday, Abu Shanab added the calls of the said officials was expressed during their Monday's meeting with government counterparts, and aimed at putting an end to the crisis that has erupted between the two sides after the Palestinian government had launched campaigns of large-scale arrests against Hamas activists.

Earlier, Sheikh Yassin and other Hamas leaders warned the Palestinian government against falling for the plot concocted by Israel to instigate inter-Palestinian fighting.
