Egypt for reconsidering UNSCOM work
Egypt-Iraq, Politics, 11/11/1998

Egypt's foreign minister Amr Moussa has asserted the need of reconsidering the work carried out by UNSCOM in Iraq.

In a statement to the Qatari daily al-Raya issued on Tuesday, Moussa added "it is necessary to have a united stand towards the work of this committee especially following criticism made against certain members of the said committee." Moussa added that certain UNSCOM members had violated their assigned tasks and dispatched reports to Israel instead of submitting them to the UN, in remarks to the resigned US inspector Scott Ritter.

Moussa called upon Iraq to honor the UN resolutions adding that the sanctions are not "immortal." He asserted the need not to undermine the interests of the people of Iraq, Iraq's territorial integrity, not to interfere in the internal affairs of Iraq and to set a date to terminate the sanctions imposed on Iraq so that the matter will be settled peacefully.
