Shara, Qaddoumi discuss Palestinian developments
Syria-Palestine, Politics, 11/10/1998
Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk al-Shara' on Monday discussed with chairman of the PLO political department Farouk al-Qaddoumi developments on the Palestinian arena.
In a statement to the press following the meeting, al-Qaddoumi underlined the importance of making consultation concerning recent developments in the region, especially following the Wye plantation agreement.
He called for further Arab solidarity to avoid the consequences of the said agreement. Then, al-Qaddoumi answered questions put by journalists on abrogating the Palestinian national charter and whether Netanyahu will implement the Wye agreement as saying "cancelling articles of the Palestinian National Charter is improper and wrong at the meantime." He stressed that Netanyahu is "dragging the region into instability and to a new war."
The recently signed Palestinian-Israeli agreement includes a clause "to invite" the various Palestinian factions to revise their National Charter regarding provisions that relate to Israel.
