UN Security Council calls for Iraqi cooperation
Iraq-UN, Politics, 11/6/1998

The United Nations Security Council yesterday condemned Iraq¹s decision to end cooperation with weapons inspectors.

In resolution 1205, the Security Council called on Iraq to rescind both the decision taken last Saturday to suspend cooperation and an earlier, similar agreement made in early August. The Iraqi decisions suspend the work of UNSCOM and restrict the work done by the International Atomic Energy Agency.

The Security Council also placed the responsibility with Iraq for delays in the lifting of sanctions, but did not express support for any military action to resolve the conflict.

US President Bill Clinton stated yesterday in a written statement that ³It is long past time for Iraq to meet its obligations to the world²

He added that the Iraqi suspension of cooperation is ³totally unacceptable.²
