Oclan still seeks shelter
Regional-Turkey-Russia, Politics, 11/6/1998
The Turkish daily al-Sabah has said that Russia asked both Libya and Sudan not to accept Abdullah Oclan, chairman of the Kurdish Workers Party (PKK) on their territories. Under the title "Gaddafi is the new supporter for Abdullah Oclan," the paper added that neither Libyan nor Sudan has replied yet to the Russian request, noting that Ankara is following up the matter closely.
In order not to provoke new problems, Russia prevented Oclan from making any telephone calls. For its part, the Turkish daily Aksham said that the leadership of the Kurdish Workers Party decided to assign its leadership in northern Iraq to Murad Qaraylan instead of Oclan "who still seeks a shelter."
