Israeli theft of Lebanese soil condemned
Lebanon-Israel, Politics, 11/5/1998
Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament Nabih Berri said Lebanon should file a complaint to the UN Security Council against Israel for stealing soil from south Lebanon for agricultural purposes inside Israel.
During a meeting with Lebanese MP's in Beirut on Wednesday, Berri said he had dispatched messages through the Lebanese Foreign Ministry to the UN council member states on the need to settle this problem.
Meanwhile, the national cultural gathering in Lebanon denounced the Israeli theft of Lebanese resources. In a statement issued on Wednesday in Beirut, the gathering's constituent committee said Israel has gone to the extreme in stealing Lebanese water, soil, archaeological treasures and in destroying houses of the Lebanese and their lands and farms.
The statement called on the Lebanese government to call on the Arab League council to convene a meeting to discuss these Israeli practices and ways of halting them immediately.
