Jordanian government halts accreditation of Qatari satellite station
Jordan, Politics, 11/5/1998

The Jordanian government on Wednesday adopted a decision providing for canceling the accreditation of both Jordanian and non-Jordanian correspondents for a Qatari television channel working in Jordan.

Director general of the Jordanian Press and Publications Department, Iyad Qattan, said that the decision taken by his department is in compliance of article 9 of the publication law, concerning foreign media correspondents, because of "deliberate insults against the Jordanian people and political system" by the management of the al-Jazira satellite channel.

This measure came after a program was screened by the channel on Tuesday on the Wadi Araba agreement.

The Jordanian news agency, Petra, characterized the al-Jazira broadcast as a "scathing attack" against Jordan.
