Eritrea's president arrives in Yemen
Yemen-Eritrea, Politics, 11/5/1998

President Assyas Afworki of Eritrea arrived on Wednesday in Aden on a three-day visit to Yemen.

A spokesman for the Yemeni government was quoted as saying that Afworki will discuss during the visit with the Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh marine border demarcation between the two countries after they settled their disputes over Hanish islands as well as navigation in the Red Sea.

Afworki said today that the regional dispute that was solved between Yemen and Eritrea did not harm relations between the two countries. Afworki described the dispute between the two countries as a dispute "inside the family."

This is the first meeting between the two Presidents since the armed conflict between the Yemeni and Eritrean forces over Greater Hanish Island in the Red Sea in 1995.

Last Sunday Yemen officially regained the island from Eritrea according to a decision reached through binding arbitration.
