Tunisian group calls on president for help in obtaining passports
Tunisia, Politics, 11/4/1998
A group named "the Tunisian assemblage without passports" directed a message to Tunisian President Zein El-Abidin Bin Ali in which they asked for passports to be granted or renewed for 31 persons.
The message was sent on Saturday to the presidential palace in Carthage. The group called on the Tunisian president to intervene with concerned organizations to "enable us to obtain our constitutional rights."
President Bin Ali told the Tunisian mass media that he is ready to issue a pardon to opposition members who live outside the country or inside it on the condition that they work according to the state's laws.
