Russian ministers confer with European ME envoy

Russian Foreign Minister Igor Evanov and his deputy, Victor Posovaluke, on Tuesday released a statement concerning their meeting with the European Union's Middle East peace process envoy, Miguel Moratinos.

The envoy visited Moscow on October 28 and 29. The developments of the peace process in the light of the recent Palestinian - Israeli agreement at Wye plantation were discussed.

Spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry Vladimir Rahmanov said the two parties agreed that the agreement offers a chance to implement the procedures of the transitional stage in the Palestinian lands and at the same time starting the final status negotiations.

Moratinos and Evanov expressed their conviction on the importanfce of taking active steps to contribute to the resumption of negotiations on the Syrian and Lebanese tracks.
