Arab ambassadors visit Ireland
Regional-Ireland, Politics, 11/4/1998
A delegation representing the council of Arab ministers in London held a three-day visit to the Republic of Ireland. Meetings were held on high political and parliamentary levels, foremost being the delegation's meeting with the Irish Prime Minister.
A statement released by the Arab League office in London said on Tuesday that the delegation held a long work session with officials at the Irish Foreign Ministry and with the foreign relations committee at the Irish parliament, and foreign minister David Andrews.
The statement added that the chairman of the Arab ambassadors council in London, Mahmoud Mahmoud, stressed that Arab stances concerning the Middle East peace process are unswerving, and the Arab commitment to principles of the international legitimacy, UN resolutions, and the land for peace formula.
The delegation denounced Israeli policies which they said resulted in " freezing the Middle East peace process."
Members of the delegation underlined the importance of the European role in the Middle East peace and expressed hope that Ireland will work to enhance this European role.
