Running the first organized navigation line between Emirates and Iraq
United Arab Emirates-Iraq, Politics, 10/31/1998

The first organized navigation line for transporting passengers will be started tomorrow between Rashid Harbor in Dubai and Um Qasr in Iraq, using the ship Jabal Ali.

Sultan Bin Selim, the head of the free zone in Jabal Ali and the general manager of Dubai's harbor, announced that the new line will ease the suffering of the Iraqi people, and that it will be subject to the terms of the oil-for-food agreement. It will provide a naval route in addition to the land route between Iraq and Jordan.

He also said that the Dubai Harbor Authority presented a request to the United Nations in September 1997 to run the line , and it obtained approval in November 1997.
