Morocco to construct $109 million tunnel across Atlas Mountains

Morocco will construct a 10.3 km long tunnel (across Atlas Mountains) to link Marrakesh to Ouarzazate in southern Morocco. The project, to be launched shortly, will allow drivers and travelers to save time and avoid the frequent road closures which occur mainly in winter due to avalanches. Morocco is planning to upgrade its road infrastructure and construct 1,000 kilometers of highways by the year 2000.
