Syrian government discusses visit of trade minister to Iraq
Syria-Iraq, Economics, 10/30/1998

Informed sources told ArabicNews.com that the Syrian government is currently discussing approval for Economic Minister Mohammed al-Amawi to travel to the inauguration of the Baghdad International Fair on Sunday.

The sources stated that approval for the visit would mean that al-Amawi would travel across the land borders on Friday, and if the visit is fulfilled, it will be the first visit by the Syrian minister of economy to Iraq in 18 years, following two visits by Health Minister Dr. Iyad al-Shatti during the Iraqi - Syrian medical week in March and the visit of Petroleum Minister Mohamed Maher Jamal.

In addition, 13 Egyptian companies specializing in food, oils, medicines, and sugar have headed to the Baghdad International Fair. All of the companies are affiliated to public sector and none of them are related to the private sector.
