Egypt, Economics, 10/30/1998

At the conclusion of an Egypt - COMESA symposium, yesterday, the participants emphasized the importance of advancing economic integration among the organization's member states to establish a free market for the COMESA (Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa) countries and as an important step toward establishing a joint African market.

The symposium highlighted the importance of activating the proposal made by Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa to convene a regional and economic conference for the COMESA countries in the coming year in which businessmen can play a major role.

Egyptian Assistant Foreign Minister Gamal Bayoumi said that the symposium achieved success in enhancing financial and humanitarian investment, economic cooperation, and commercial exchange among the organization's member states.
