Disputes between security forces and unemployed graduates result in many injured
Morocco, Local, 10/28/1998

The Moroccan government expressed yesterday its regret toward the violent disputes that took place on Monday between security forces and hundreds of unemployed graduates resulting in injury and the detention of tens of graduates.

University graduates facing unemployment have been protesting and had requested that they be employed by the public sector. This incident comes after Morocco proclaimed the end of acts that are brutal and against the human rights of citizens in an effort to clean up all outstanding issues on this subject.

Meanwhile human rights organizations, opposition parties and the journalists union condemned in separate statements the severity and brutality of the Moroccan security men in settling the demonstration, the first of its sort since Prime Minister Abderrahim Youssoufi was appointed.

Moreover the Moroccan assembly for human rights said that not less than 100 persons were injured and 57 arrested when the security forces attacked the hundreds of demonstrating graduates who were demanding jobs.
