President Clinton contacts Arab leaders over Palestinian-Israeli accord
Morocco-Morocco, Politics, 10/27/1998
U.S. President Bill Clinton informed Arab leaders on the contents of the Palestinian-Israel interim peace accord, concluded last week at the White House.
President Clinton phoned King Hassan II, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz of Saudi Arabia to inform them on the deal and ask for their support, White House spokesman Barry Toiv said.
Clinton urged the Arab leaders to "build on the agreement and on the partnership between the Israelis and the Palestinians (and) develop a new atmosphere not only between the two parties but between Israel and the wider Arab world," Toiv said.
He said the response was "overwhelmingly positive," MAP reported.
After signing the peace deal with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Palestinian President Yasser Arafat, flew to Morocco, where he briefed King Hassan II on the Wye Plantation agreement.
