Arab electricity experts meet in Cairo

Electricity experts in the Arab states, who are also members of the executive bureau of the Arab ministers council involved in the sector of electricity, concluded their two-day deliberations in Syria on Monday at the headquarters of the Arab League.

The meeting included experts from Syria, Bahrain, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Morocco. The experts adopted several recommendations concerning issues listed on the meeting's agenda. The recommendations will be submitted to the meeting of the executive bureau of the Arab ministers council concerned with electricity affairs to be held in February 1999.

The experts underlined the importance of following up on the projects to establish electricity grids between the Arab states as well as between Arab and neighboring foreign countries so as electricity grid networking to be installed linking the Arab Maghreb states and al-Mashreq states before the year 2,000.

The experts underlined the importance of the sector of electricity in backing the greater Arab free trade zone and of exchanging expertise and training and setting up information networking in the area of electricity, and of supporting the manufacturing of Arab electrical instruments for generating, transferring and distributing electricity in the Arab states.
