Vatican foreign minister voices concern over Israeli measures in Jerusalem
Regional-Egypt-Vatican, Politics, 10/19/1998
Vatican Foreign Minister Jean-Louis Tauran voiced serious concern on Sunday over Israeli measures destined to alter the genuine identity of the holy city of Jerusalem.
Tauran, in remarks to journalists after a meeting with Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa, urged the world community to safeguard the sanctity and distinguished features of the ancient city.
On Israel's positions in relation to the Middle East peace process, Tauran expressed hope that the parties involved would resort to wisdom to overcome obstacles hindering progress in the negotiating process.
Tauran, who held talks with sheikh of Al-Azhar, Mohammed Sayed Tantawi, affirmed that the Palestinian people were the victims of the absence of international justice.
