Bahrain, Iran to resume diplomatic relations on ambassadorial level
Bahrain-Iran, Politics, 10/19/1998
Diplomatic sources in Manama said that Bahrain will appoint Salman al-Sabbagh as its ambassador in Tehran in the course of restoring diplomatic relations between the two countries to ambassadorial level before bilateral relations deteriorated between the two countries in 1996.
On Sunday, the Iranian official news agency said that Iran has appointed a new ambassador for Bahrain, Jalal Fairozinia, who had the post of the Arab Gulf affairs at the Iranian Foreign Ministry.
In the Summer of 1996, Syrian mediation succeeded in easing tensions between the two countries, especially in the media fields.
Soon after, talks started about resuming diplomatic relations between Tehran and Manama on the ambassadorial level. The improvement in relations between the two countries resulted in a visit by former Iranian President Hashami Rafsanjani last March to Manama.
