Morocco expects tourists to exceed 2 millions this year
Morocco-UK, Economics, 10/17/1998

Morocco is expecting to exceed 2 million tourists this year and is poised to regain its share of the British tourism market, since in the first eight months of this year, 76,000 British tourists visited Morocco, said a Moroccan executive.

Samir Kheldouni Sahraoui, general manager of the National Tourism Board (ONMT), told MAP that the number of tourists increased by more than 11 percent this year while remittances grew by 16 percent.

He added that the decrease in the number of British tourists noted during summer 1996 and winter 97 was reduced starting in November 1997.

The Moroccan executive attended in the Moroccan northern city of Tangiers a conference on the British tourism market on the eve of London's World Travel Market 98 in mid-November in which Morocco is taking part.
