Japan and Syrian, Middle East economic relations
Japan's exports to the Middle East were worth about US $14 billion, which shows an increase of over 26% compared to the figures from 1996. " This increase was mainly due to the yen's appreciation and the decline of oil prices," he said, adding, "The share of Japanese exports to the Middle East was a little more than 3%" of total Japanese exports.

The Gulf Air company announced in a press statement today that it is increasing its air trips from Gulf to Amsterdam to seven trips per week, one trip per day starting on October 25. The statement said that the new trips will be started by going through London in a joint exchange agreement with British Midland airlines. Go

Ankara on Thursday refused a Syrian request to discuss the problem of water sharing amid a security conflict which has provoked fears of armed confrontation. An official at the Turkish Foreign Ministry said that Damascus should halt its support for the rebels of the Kurdistani Workers Party before holding any talks pertaining to waters. He added, "The actual problem is terrorism. This issue has to be sorted out before viewing other issues." Go
