Eritrean delegation in Yemen
Yemen-Eritrea, Politics, 10/15/1998

The Yemeni news Agency Sabaa said that an Eritrean delegation comprising several officials arrived in Sanaa on Tuesday in a visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations.

The delegation includes the Yemeni minister of state for Foreign affairs and the ministers of trade and industry. The delegation arrived on board the plane which transported Yemeni Foreign Minister Abdul Qader Bajmal, who held a short visit to Asmara and delivered Eritrea's President Assyas Afworki a message from his Yemeni counterpart, Ali Abdullah Saleh on "prospects of cooperation between the two countries."

The delegation delivered a communique yesterday to Yemeni President Ali Abdallah Saleh from Afworki in which the latter confirmed his country's abidance with implementing the judgment of the international arbitration committee on the Red Sea islands between Yemen and Eritrea.

Afworki, added that he is also aspiring to establish good relations with Yemen and open a new page in these relations, enhancing them in the interest of security and stability.

Both countries expressed satisfaction with the decision taken by the international arbitration commission, in which Yemen was announced to have sovereignty over the Hanish Islands in the Red Sea which was the subject of disputes between the two countries which have accepted the resulting decision of the arbitration commission.
