Yemen-Eritrea, Politics, 10/13/1998
Normalization measures between Yemen and Eritrea have practically begun.
In a phone call between Yemeni President Ali Abdallah Saleh and his Eritrean counterpart Assias Afworki, they opened a new page for bilateral relations after the two countries already accepted the decision of the arbitration committee concerning Yemen's right to the Hanish Islands.
Yemeni sources said that during the phone call, the two presidents confirmed their joint concern with enhancing relations between the two countries for their mutual interests and for boosting peace, stability and security in the region.
In the first phone call directly between them after the decision of the arbitration committee was issued, the two presidents referred to the importance of strong ties established on mutual respect, cooperation and good neighborhood between the two countries.
Afworki renewed his country's approval of the decision of the court, urging for quick implementation.
