Syrian minister of defense attacks Jordan
Syria, Politics, 10/10/1998

Syrian Minister of Defense Mustafa Tlass attacked the Israeli - Turkish alliance, saying that the new regional security axis reflects the provocative and aggressive efforts directed against Syria, which were proved by Turkish officials' recent declarations, which comprised "direct and obvious threats to Syria."

Tlass told reporters yesterday that "that Turkish entry into this alliance is not for the good of the Turkish people or the Islamic nations because Israel is the only beneficiary of this alliance, which was sponsored by the U.S.A, and the people of the area refuse the alliance policy and pivots because their experiences confirm that this will bring nothing but political tension and sabotage cooperation relations."

The Syrian minister of defense indirectly criticized Jordan, saying, "Jordan joined this aggressive alliance and called for normalization with the enemy."
