The Omani Central Bank said in its quarterly report, that the personal loan sector obtained 872.2 million Omani riyals with 36.4% of the total loans while the import sector obtained 319.8 million riyals with 13.3%. US closed its embassies and consulates in Saudi Arabia to the public for one day to enhance their security precautions. US officials took this decision after receiving information that the building of the consulates and embassies could be aggressively targeted. At the same time, the embassy issued a warning to all US citizens in Saudi Arabia to be alert and cautious. Go

Emirates Aviation Company, owned by Dubai's government, signed an agreement with the Japanese company Nipon for cooperation on trips between the two countries. Emirates Aviation said in a press conference that the two companies agreed to cooperate on chosen trips and that the agreement will take effect on October 25. Go

A study issued by the Arab Union for Food Industries, an Arab League organization, confirmed that the Arab states import foodstuffs valued at $35 billion accounting for 10% of total international trade in foodstuffs. The study stated out that Arab exports of foodstuffs amount to $4.5 billion, resulting in a deficit of $31.5 billion between the Arab imports and exports of foodstuffs. The study called for steps to diminish the food gap that greatly affects the Arab states' economies. Go

The US Agency for International Development (USAID) decided to support a project for upgrading and developing Egyptian non-governmental organizations by presenting $9 million for this purpose, Toni Christiansen-Wagner, the deputy director of the agency, said yesterday. Go

Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa said that the mediation of President Mubarak between Turkey and Israel aims at containing and defusing the current crisis. In press statements Moussa said that the issue is very complicated, but it can be solved by diplomatic means without any military action or other escalation. Go

Libyan leader Col. Moammar Gaddafi said that he views any aggression against Syria as an aggression against Libya. During a meeting he held in the southern Libyan city of Sebha, Gaddafi added that Turkey's trade relations with Libya will be damaged if Turkey attacks Syria. Go

Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz on October 14 will start a four-day official visit to China. In September, the Saudi crown prince visited Britain, France, and the USA. Go

Lebanese President Elias Hrawi on Tuesday met at Baabda Presidential palace in Beirut with commander of the Lebanese Army, Emil Lahoud. Go

The Jordanian ambassador to Lebanon, Anmar Abdul Halim al-Hammoud, has denied the existence of a Jordanian alliance with Turkey. Following his meeting with the chairman of the Higher Shiite Islamic Council in Lebanon, Sheikh Muhammad Mahdi Shamseddine, in Beirut on Tuesday, the Jordanian ambassador said that Jordan's Crown Prince Hassan on Monday phoned Turkish President Suleiman Demirel to stress the importance of settling the Syrian- Turkish crisis peacefully. The second deputy Saudi prime minister and minister of defense, Prince Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz, met yesterday in Riyadh with Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, currently visiting Saudi Arabia. Go
