El-Baz accuses Israel of being the reason for halt in negotiations
Egypt-Israel, Politics, 10/7/1998

Osama El-Baz, the political advisor of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, warned of Israel's failure to commit to the treaties and bases of negotiation to which it agreed to with Arab countries.

El-Baz asked Israel to apply the provisions of international law concerning the treaties signed since Camp David in 1979, including the principles put forward in the Oslo accords, in order to reach comprehensive settlements of oustanding issues.

He said, "Israel must remember its commitments to the Israeli - Egyptian peace treaty and work on achieving a comprehensive peace."

He pointed to Israeli - Syrian negotiations which had reached some results toward Israel's readiness to withdraw to the borderline that existed prior to 1967. Those negotiations broke off and have not resumed, as Syria wishes to resume talks from the point at which they broke off and Israel wants to start with a clean slate.
