Elderly account for 7 percent of Morocco's population
Morocco, Culture, 10/3/1998
Elderly persons account for 7 percent of Morocco's 28-million strong population and will represent 9 percent of this population in the year 2014.
The figures were disclosed by the Moroccan secretary of state in charge of social protection, family and childhood, Mohamed Said Saadi, on the occasion of the world elderly day.
The official stressed the need to implement a plan of action to coordinate and standardize pension systems.
Saadi also called on local councils to take initiatives toward the promotion of elderly persons' situation through the creation of leisure centers and granting them transport reductions.
